Taking the Plunge on Campbell Island
The megaherbs were in full flower, putting on an impressive display when we reached the top of the Col Lyall boardwalk - a carpet of lush vegetation swathed in brilliant colour.
The variety of vegetation here is also impressive with the Pleurophyllum speciosum, the Campbell Island Daisy, with its large, two-toned purple flowers, painting the hillsides.
Beyond the meadows of megaherbs lay spectacular views of the islands and cliffs of Northwest Harbour, while gliding above our feathered companions Southern Royal Albatross.
At 52°, 660-kilometres south of Bluff, Campbell Island is the southernmost point of our journey and for the hardy expeditioners this was celebrated by taking a plunge off Spirit of Enderby into Perseverance Harbour. Tonight we will sail northwest towards the Auckland Islands.
