School's out, Dive in!: Exploring Nissan Island and Snorkelling its Reefs
Along the shore at Nissan Island awaited the local children dressed in their full traditional dress as we were then ‘cleansed' by the village before entering the local arena for some more dancing and singing. The locals were so lovely, happy to answer all our questions about life on the island and very proud to show us around their beautiful village. We had the pleasure of being taken around their school with the children, with wonderful displays of their art work and a real insight into their daily school lives. We also managed to venture to one of the locally planned B&B in a fabulous vista across the lagoon, I think many guests were keen to sign up for the future. Sadly, we said our goodbyes to the locals who waved us off in our Zodiacs, I think we all made many friends on the day with lasting memories.
In the afternoon, some of us more adventurous snorkellers, enjoyed the fabulous underwater world snorkelling along a deep reef edge with amazing visibility, with the many colours of the reef and the tropical fish, a magical time whilst others enjoyed a more leisurely afternoon relaxing around Heritage Adventurer's pool, swapping stories or just enjoying the peace and quiet of life in the islands.
