Over land and Underwater: Experiencing the Sights and Sounds of Manus Island

A beautiful sunrise in the background greets us as we wake up for an early riser breakfast, what a wonderful way to start the day on board Heritage Adventurer. As we made our way out onto the Zodiacs we heard the distant sounds of the wondrous beach welcome which awaited us at Derimbat Village in Manus Island.

Waving at us with wonderful smiles were the kids from the local school out in their traditional dress, singing songs and playing instruments in harmony. They then took us to tour through their village as the chief shared experiences of local life on the island. Following an aptly named frog dance, a group of local men jumping from trees came down to provide us with a welcome coconut to drink. Passengers had a fantastic time joining in with the dancing and then were shown around this beautiful village as we discovered their way of life.

This afternoon also marked our first time snorkling in Papua New Guinea's clear crystal blue waters, soaking in the colourful majesty of the region's underwater world and beautiful white sandy beaches featuring colourful corals and many, many tropical fish. An absolute feast for the eyes, we ended the day feeling very blessed to have visited this paradise island.
