The Warm Welcome of Madang
An early start to the day with a big breakfast at the Hilton Hotel before traveling to Jackson Airport for our charter flight to Madang. A busy airport with flights all over Papua New Guinea but once through formalities we joined our flight to Madang where we briefly connected with some of the guests who had departed the Indonesian Explorer voyage aboard Heritage Adventurer.
Straight into a local bus for our first village visit, we then acclimatised to the heat and humidity of Madang. Our first experience of a wonderful local welcome ‘sing sing' and a wander round the village with the locals showing their crafts, pottery and before embarking on our home away from home for the next 17 days Heritage Adventurer, settling into our cabins and Captain Hans Soderholm, our Expedition Leader Nathan Russ and expedition team for welcome cocktails and canapes followed by an exquisite dinner in the dining room.
