Exploring the Wonders of Fiordland

New Zealand Fur Seal, Fiordland
As we arrived in the dark on day one, this morning we woke to our first views of Breaksea Sound, a perfect way to start our first full day in Fiordland. As we cruised from Broughton Arm, back up the fiord, the rain started to ease and we enjoyed time out on the decks taking photos and spotting Buller's Albatross and a cheeky seal. We then sailed through Acheron Passage being wowed by the mountains, waterfalls and vegetation that clings to the landscape.

After lunch it was time to go ashore and discover even more of what the true Fiordland experience consists of. Making our way up to Moose Lake, a two hour return walk through some deep Fiordland mud, this is the small lake that marks the famous introduction of the Fiordland Moose! Despite the mud and water it was well worth it, and we enjoyed observing some Blue Duck/Whio, inquisitive South Island Robin, but no moose.

Back on board Heritage Explorer in the early evening, we moved to our anchor at the end of Wet Jacket Arm. We are all pleased to be warm, dry and enjoying a pre-dinner drink ahead of what smells like another amazing meal from our talented Chef Matt.
