Dusky and Doubtful Double Act
Day one of our Dusky and Doubtful Sounds voyage of discovery saw 18 guests ready to experience the magic of Fiordland's finest sounds. Arriving in Deep Cove it was a quick introduction to our swanky expedition yacht Heritage Explorer, her crew and expedition team before a quicker introduction to the true meaning of expedition travel.
With a stormy nor'wester on the way, we repurposed our itinerary and went with the weather and where the best opportunities available - sailing through Doubtful Sound and then making our way down the coast to Broughton Arm in Breaksea Sound while the weather remained in our favour.
The incoming rain provided us with some spectacular views and a true Fiordland experience with the sheer mountains covered in torrential waterfalls running down into the dark waters. The change of plan to beat the storm delayed our anchorage into the end of Breaksea Sound to around 2200 hours, which gave us time to enjoy a delicious group meal and ponder what was to come for the rest of our expedition.
