Exploring the King George River
Our Kimberley Explorer voyage was underway as our Zodiacs crossed a calm Koolama Bay to the mouth of the King George River, getting great views of the stunning Warton Sandstone cliffs that make up the Kimberley. Some of us were lucky to observe the elusive Dugong hanging out in the seagrass shallows.
We safely beached on a sandbar, like the Koolama did, to check out an Osprey nest. Continuing our Zodiac cruise during low tide, we spotted a crocodile hidden in the muddy shallows. Travelling up the 15km long river, we explored in the sunshine, enjoying the sites of Tafoni, the trees growing out of the sandstone and the vast, intricate sandstone synonymous with the Kimberley Coast.
An amazing afternoon was had, and as the evening approached, the light shone on the sandstone with a warm glow - a perfect Kimberley sunset.
To end our first day of adventure, we enjoyed a Captain’s Welcome to meet the team looking after us on the voyage.
