A Day of Highlights on Enderby Island
Following a full day's adventure on Enderby Island, answers to tonight's dinner table question: "what was your special experience on Enderby Island?" were many and varied:
"The Yellow-eyed Penguins, I never expected there to be so many."
"The twisted trunks of the rata trees."
"The lush and colourful vegetation of the megaherbs."
"The dramatic cliffs and rock shelf on the north coast," and
"The Southern Royal and Light-mantled Sooty Albatross."
While we all took away our individual highlights, everyone agreed it was a very special day at a very special place from our adventurous 7-hour hikers to those happy to cross the island's boardwalk and blazing field of megaherbs or simply find a quiet space and take in the Hooker's/New Zealand Sea Lion activity at Sandy Bay and steady stream of Yellow-eyed Penguins/Hoiho making their way to and from the shore to their nests feeding hungry chicks.
In addition to sponsoring True Young Explorers, Heritage Expeditions also regularly sponsors artists to join our voyages. Tonight New Zealand artist Hannah Shand presented her artwork of native birds, beautifully detailed creations using fine tip black ink pens. You can find out more about Hannah's work here www.hannahshandart.com.
