Birding at sea onwards to Campbell Island
After two thrilling days at Macquarie Island, a day at sea made for a good time to rest, edit photos, be entertained and educated at various talks, conduct biosecurity in preparation for Campbell Island and be out on deck observing birds.
Every bird seen today was a member of the tubenose order, a group of oceanic birds supremely adapted to life at sea—these range from the huge Wandering Albatross down to the tiny Gray-backed Storm Petrel.
Observers out on deck at just the right time also enjoyed a small pod of Long-finned Pilot Whales that passed by in the afternoon. Next stop, Campbell Island!
