Zodiac cruising at the iconic Horizontal Falls
We awoke to a stunning day in Talbot Bay and headed off for our first adventure, a Zodiac cruise to the entrance of Horizontal Falls, known for its spectacular water flow. Soaking in the iconic Kimberley geology around us, we had an enjoyable experience at the falls during peak ebb. It was an exciting cruise as our skilled drivers navigated the Zodiacs close to the falls and we could see the waters ebb and flow in front of us.
After breakfast, we enjoyed a Zodiac cruise to visit the falls again. This time, the water had eased, and it was calmer. We learned how this amazing phenomenon was created and why the rock formations were so intense. As we cruised up Talbot Creek, everywhere we looked the rocks were eroded, buckled and folded. Another highlight was seeing a Short-eared Rock-wallaby mother and her young resting in the shade.
After a leisurely lunch, some of us headed off on an exploratory Zodiac cruise to the magnificent Slug Island, seeing a pair of Osprey feeding their chicks in the nest. Further into Dugong Bay, we explored mangrove forests, finding Kingfishers, White-bellied Sea Eagles and a rock with hundreds of Eastern Reef Egrets roosting.
