Welcomed to the stilt town of Agats
We visited the stilt town of Agats today, the largest town in the mangroves home to the Asmat people sitting at the mouth of Flamingo Bay. It was an incredible experience as over thirty war canoes met us with men in war dress before we were welcomed into their longhouse for a traditional dance welcome.
Exploring this remote town, we visited the stunning Asmat Museum and purchased some of the famous carvings found here.
