Southern Royal Abatross and Megaherbs at Col Ridge
Having inverted our itinerary in order to avoid a severe westerly sitting on the Auckland Islands and The Snares, we began our Forgotten Islands of the South Pacific voyage by steaming almost due south aboard Spirit of Enderby toward Campbell Island.
After a little more than a day-and-a-half at sea, with some notable swells, we arrived. The afternoon, for most, was spent ascending the Col-Lyall boardwalk, wending through the volcanic landscape, and attaining Col Ridge among the megaherbs and nesting Southern Royal Albatross.
A general sense of elated calm pervades our expeditioners as we get to stretch our legs in one of New Zealand's most remarkable landscapes.
