The Royal Experience of a Lifetime: Soaking in the King George Falls

Today's visit to the King George River was one to seal our time in the Kimberley in our hearts forever. With calm seas during morning, our Zodiac cruise from Heritage Adventurer into the King George River showed us just why it has earned the reputation of being one of the most spectacular river systems on the planet.

Scorched red, stone-stacked walls towered over us on either side as we made the 13 kilometre voyage up the river until we were met by twin waterfalls that cascade 80 metres down ancient cliffs.  While on one side the falling water had retreated to a trickle, the other side still thundered with the overflow from the wet season. Peels of laughter and delight bounced off the gorge walls as those looking to cool down piled into the Zodiacs which entered the falls splash zone in an unforgettable, refreshing experience.

En route to Darwin, our adventure coming to an end, we spent the afternoon testing our knowledge of the Kimberley in the lounge and relived our many highlights during visual recap and slide show provided by our photographers and celebrated with drinks, and an exceptional farewell dinner with the Captain and crew.
