Polar Bear, Walrus and Wrangel Island
The quiet start to our day belied the adventures that lay ahead. After a leisurely breakfast we hopped in our Zodiacs and went ashore at Komsomol Lake. A light fog added to the mystery of this unique location where we enjoyed an educational walk with local ranger Leonid.
We met up with our Northbound overlanders over lunch at Nanauna Lagoon and farewelled our Southbound overland team for their adventure across the island. With everyone sorted it was back on board Spirit of Enderby to set sail for Herald Island. Not long after we began our journey north of Wrangel Island we saw three huddles of walrus on the ice so we took the opportunity to take a Zodiac cruise.
Later in the day 3 Grey Whales surrounded our ship. The curious whales came in close allowing us to enjoy their company, while the cherry on the top came as Polar Bear ambled towards us on ice in perfect sunset lighting. Another amazing expedition day on our Across the Top of the World voyage.
