From the lush forests to cozy township of Ulva and Stewart Island
After a very smooth sail overnight down the Otago coastline and across the straight, guests awoke to birdsong as Heritage Adventurer anchored just between Stewart Island and Ulva Island. Although misty, the weather stayed dry and warm with even a peak of sunshine later in the morning.
Guests enjoyed a walk through Ulva Island's lush forest, with local guides complimenting the expedition team. Many native flora, fauna and birdlife was spotted along the various paths and shorelines of Ulva Island, and even a cheeky Hooker's sea lion as guests departed on a Zodiac cruise. Glassy water with gin clear visibility showed off the weed and even urchins were spotted deep below. Many more shore birds and fauna were pointed out by the team, before guests returned to the ship for lunch.
Heritage Adventurer relocated to Kaipipi over lunch, and many guests were transferred by Zodiac for an afternoon walk to Oban. Guests explored the only township of Stewart Island, with visits to the Rakiura Museum, the various stores and, of course, the famous South Seas Pub.
