Immersed in culture in Waitangi

What a place to end our The Best of New Zealand journey, Waitangi! Probably one of the most culturally significant locations in New Zealand as we know it right now.

Arriving at the jetty via Zodiac, we had a short walk to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. At the iconic grounds, we were welcomed by our guide who took us through the area and provided a history of the area and its significance. It was a special experience to have a guide that was so knowledgeable and able to put it into words that everyone understands.

Later we had the privilege of watching the Māori Cultural Performance, which is said to be one of the best in the country. The dance, the intensity, and the humour they put in made for all of us a pleasure to experience and gave us an idea of traditional Māori culture and tradition.

After enjoying lunch on Heritage Adventurer, we ventured to Russell where we had time to explore. What a nice little town with a great atmosphere. We had options to swim, visit the museum and even make our way to the Flag Staff, which provided stunning views.
