Exploring history at Swift Bay
After a leisurely morning on board, with the exciting spectacle of a Humpback Whale sighting, we were ready to start our day of adventure. Taking in the stunning coastal scenery as we cruised into Montague Sound, past Cape Voltaire and Katers Island, we arrived at our destination of Swift Bay. Some of us departed, adventuring on the optional helicopter excursion to the Mitchell Plateau to see Mitchell Falls, explore the geological forms, take in the vistas and relax in the freshwater pools.
At Swift Bay, we enjoyed a stunning Zodiac cruise to Warrabii East to see the different rock art forms and shapes, viewing birds, bent knee figures, tassel figures and even a turtle, all in a variety of colours from black to ochre and with yellow infill. The sites were significant for the indigenous people of the time with the addition of middens, which are mounds of shells. These shells are made of different species of cockles and clams eaten, with the leftover shells discarded in the mounds.
After appreciating these impressive archaeological sites, we cruised back to Heritage Adventurer exploring the mangroves and observing two Osprey.
