Exploring Enderby Island – an Auckland Islands adventure

Our In the Wake of Scott & Shackleton adventure continued with a very enjoyable day in the Auckland Islands. Although wind speeds were stronger than expected in the morning, and the impressive volcanic cliffs surrounding Sandy Bay were cloaked in clouds, we had an exciting and active day with everybody participating in their activity of choice.

There were a range of options to choose from. First up was an 18-kilometre hike around Enderby Island, the northernmost island in the Auckland Islands, to traverse across Enderby along the boardwalk. We had ample time to enjoy the amazing wildlife dominated by New Zealand/Hooker's Sea Lions, guests giving way to Yellow-eyed Penguin/Hoiho on the penguin highway and we also enjoyed the captivating aerial antics of the Southern Royal Albatross.

Others enjoyed the historic sites around Port Ross with a Zodiac cruise to observe the local wildlife, by which time the seas had calmed and the sun started to shine. What a day!
