Carnley Harbour Highlights
Day four on our ‘Beyond Fiordland: New Zealand's Wildest Islands' dawned fine, clear and calm by Southern Ocean standards with just a gentle swell from the west.
The Auckland Islands were clearly visible ahead of us in the distance and by late morning, after completing our biosecurity checks, Spirit of Enderby was entering Carnley Harbour and we were all enjoying a beautifully scenic navigation through the harbour to our anchorage at the western end of the harbour.
Several Zodiacs headed away with our intrepid South West Cape climbers who, after a bit of a muddy scramble, were able to enjoy spectacular views over Carnley Harbour and the White-capped Albatross colony. Others opting for the Zodiac cruise navigated along the shoreline of Adams Island before passing through Victoria Passage to view the albatross colony from below followed by exploring the beautiful rata forest at Camp Cove.
Our next port of call was the beautiful eastern fjords where we all enjoyed a pre-dinner Zodiac cruise watching the Rockhopper Penguins among fantastically surprising coastal scenery.
