Across from the shores of Ashmore Reef
It was a beautiful blue sky day as Heritage Adventurer approached the stunningly clear waters of Australia's most remote marine park Ashmore Reef. It was also an especially exciting day for our birding friends and enthusiasts as we had the privilege to Zodiac cruise this designated important bird area (IBA).
Although we weren't permitted to land because of the 100,000 seabirds that breed here, it was an incredible opportunity to board our Zodiacs and cruise near West Island to get closer to the action for some incredible photos and to watch the spectacle of thousands of birds surrounding us, feeding, nesting and visiting from faraway lands.
The wildlife below the water was equally diverse with its coral reefs, which could be observed under our Zodiacs due to the incredible clarity of the water, home to more than 500 species of fish, 225 reef-building coral species, turtles, dugong and thousands of colourful fish.
What an incredible Australian outpost and experience!
