Fit for a King: Kimberley's King George River
It was a jaw-slackening introduction to Australia's iconic Kimberley coast, within hours of the first day of our inaugural Kimberley Explorer voyage we were in awe of the towering, fractured iron-tinged red cliffs as Heritage Adventurer approached the mouth of the mighty King George River.
Dwarfed by unspoiled nature, we piled into our Zodiacs to navigate this famous waterway between ancient sandstone walls rising up on either side of us and glowing fiery red in the afternoon light.
During our Zodiac cruise to the rightly famous King George Falls - spectacular twin waterfalls cascading 80-metres down 2,000 million-year-old towering cliffs - we paused to search for life amid the mangroves. Guests were quick to spot their first crocodile of the voyage plus many species of bird and a snake curled on top of a small stick protruding from the water. Some of us cool off under the falls while still on board our Zodiacs before returning to Heritage Adventurer already in awe at the realisation that nature doesn't do things by halves in the Kimberley.
