A sacred experience – visiting Langgi Inlet

We awoke to another beautiful Kimberley day with blue skies and sunshine. This morning's excursion was to a sacred place, Langgi Inlet - Worrorra Country, under the traditional ownership of the Arraluli Clan. Langgi is rarely visited, and this excursion marks the first time Heritage Expeditions has visited this sacred place. We enjoyed our first beach landing in the Zodiacs before being greeted with a ‘Welcome to Country’ and learning about traditional cultural history and the dreamtime stories of this remarkable bay.

Hundreds of weathered stones line the head of this beach, resembling warriors standing like guardians of the land. This is a sacred place, and because of this, we weren't permitted to take photographs of the stone guardians or the traditional sites we visited.

Back on board Heritage Adventurer, we enjoyed a special sighting from the many observation decks of mother and calf Humpback Whales slapping their tail and fins. In the afternoon, we got our snorkel gear ready for tomorrow’s visit to Ashmore Reef and enjoyed afternoon tea, geology lectures and another Humpback Whale sighting!
