Zodiac Cruising the Kimberley’s King George River
The buzz of our Zodiacs fills the early morning air as we zip across Koolama Bay bound for the final adventure on our Kimberley Explorer voyage – King George Falls. As we snake our way up King George River we marvel at the spectacular sandstone formations which tower above us.
Along the way we observe Short-eared Rock-wallaby bounding around, a large crocodile resting on a sand bank up a small side channel with a few lucky guests even spotting a Dugong in one of the sheltered bays.
Everywhere we look are beautiful colours and formations in the sandstone, while ferns and mosses grow in shaded, drip-fed crevasses like hanging gardens. At the top of the river reach the main highlight – King George Falls. At 80-metres high it is Western Australia’s highest twin drop waterfalls. It might be late in the dry season, and the water flow has slowed, but it is still a spectacular sight to behold. During our explorations we also spot a tree snake and water monitor.
As our Zodiacs single file back to our trusty expedition vessel we discuss how today has been an incredible way to end what has been an amazing 11 days exploring Australia’s remarkable Kimberley coast. Back on board Heritage Adventurer, we celebrate our final evening together and this unforgettable adventure.
