Traditional buffalo racing on Sumbawa Island
The first full day of our Indonesian Explorer adventure started with a delightful visit to Pamulang Village on Sumbawa Island, where the locals showed us how they process rice and spices. This was followed by the traditional buffalo race ‘Barapan Kebo’, practised for hundreds of years in Sumbawa. It was simply exhilarating with Water Buffalo running through a rice field with water, mud and spray everywhere!
In the afternoon, it was off to Satonda Island for some amazing snorkelling and to climb the ridge above the crater lake to soak in some stunning views. Those kayaking went around the lake observing hundreds of Flying Foxes teaming out of their roosting trees.
