Touring Kanazawa's Kenroku-en, Garden of the Six Sublimities
Guests on our voyage starting today joined us in making Heritage Expeditions history as part of our first ever Japan voyage - Eternal Japan and South Korea! With much excitement we set off to explore and experience all Kanazawa had to offer.
Today's activities featured an exploration of one of Japan's most famous gardens, Kenroku-en Garden, also known as the 'Garden of the six sublimities'. This pertains to Chinese landscape theory for the six essential qualities that make the perfect garden, namely: spaciousness, seclusion, artificiality, antiquity, abundant water and broad views,
With incredible water features, bridges, trees, flowers, views and hidden nooks, these gardens neighbour our next destination Kanazawa Castle Park, former seat of the powerful Maeda Clan who bore immense size and wealth from 1583 to the end of the Edo period.
Next, we headed to Omicho Market where we observed our Head Chef, Gunther, and Hotel Manager, Sergio, in action purchasing a multitude of fresh produce for our upcoming dinner on board Heritage Adventurer as we weaved through the bustling stalls,
During the afternoon we strolled the Samurai and Geisha Districts before we were farewelled by a talented group of local dancers and a vivacious performance to end what would be the first of many exciting days in Japan, the 'Land of the Rising Sun'.
Yesterday we learned that we would be unable to land at Chuuk in Micronesia, but fortunately our intrepid expedition leader arranged an ext…READ MORE
