Spectacular Sights Spotted on the Snares Islands
Incredible Subantarctic sunshine greeted us as Heritage Adventurer approached the Snares Islands, the first landing on our Ross Sea Antarctica expedition In the Wake of Scott & Shackleton. The aptly-named collection of jagged outcrops loomed dramatically as Heritage Adventurer anchored for guests to take up a day of wildlife and wilderness exploration.
Piling into our Zodiacs we skipped over the clear blue waters to enjoy an incredible afternoon exploring the quiet bays and towering sheer cliffs of this ancient landscape. Snares Crested Penguins put on an excellent show as we observed them navigating the trecherous slopes traversing in and out of the water while New Zealand Fur Seals reclined in nooks and crannies. Tucked under the shade of the high southern cliffs of North East Island, we were awed to observe a Buller's Albatross feeding on large schools of fish which were trying to hide under our inflatables - with not much success.
All in all, an excellent start to our adventure.
