Making Memories at Macquarie Island

Crossing into the clear blue Australian waters, Heritage Adventurer sails towards a wonderful day on Macquarie island as rafts of King and Royal Penguins greeted our Zodiacs as we approached land at Sandy Bay.

We spent the morning and early afternoon walking along the pebbly beach, enjoying the rousing company of penguins, weaner Elephant Seals, their mothers, and other younger males gazing upon us for closer inspection.

Before we knew it, it was time to break for lunch then ship cruise to Lusitania Bay where we headed out in our Zodiacs for a closer look at the sprawling King Penguin colony occupying the entire beach.

It wasn't long before the call of "Orca" came over the PA and we spent the next 15 minutes observing a pod of five Orca (including one large male) cruising the shoreline. This gave us a moment to pause before we resumed on our Zodiac cruise to snap even more photogenic views of the coastline.

With the wind picking up it was good to get back to the shelter and warmth of Heritage Adventurer to end another superb day, packed full of adventure.
