Indigenous rock art at Bigge Island
Our Kimberley Explorer voyage saw us returning from Ashmore Reef enjoying a leisurely morning on board attending lectures, catching up with fellow guests and enjoying the many amenities Heritage Adventurer had to offer.
We arrived at Bigge Island via a scenic Zodiac cruise, greeted by many animal tracks in the sand of Monjon, Quoll and Echidna. We explored the island, detailing the island's history, indigenous sites and artwork. The art we saw was contact art – meaning the first contact with Europeans was depicted on the cave's walls along with many handprints. It was a hot and rewarding day of exploration, and the shade and caves were enjoyed by all.
