Inaugural Hauraki Gulf and Bay of Islands Voyage Sets Sail
This afternoon our inaugural voyage to the Hauraki Gulf and Bay of Islands began in central Auckland. Heritage Explorer awaited our guests in the Viaduct, once all were aboard we set sail.
On this special expedition, hosted in collaboration with New Zealand Geographic, we are joined by its founding Editor/Editor-at-Large Kennedy Warne.
Sailing through Waitemata Harbour we passed Rangitoto Island on our way to The Noises, where conservation is being championed by the islands' owners, and efforts are underway to extend the protection the islands enjoy into the marine environment. Kennedy was able to provide some fascinating insights into this work, and the challenges the islands' owners face.
