Flexibility Proves Key to Expedition Travel
When you plan an expedition such as we do here it is natural that you always include every possible activity and landing, knowing that flexibility is key as weather and sea conditions, as well as ice conditions in these latitudes can be unpredictable. That is the very nature of expedition travel - it is challenging but always very rewarding. In planning our expeditions we always allow more time than is required and it invariably pays off.
This expedition we were in usual 'expedition-mode' and weather and sea conditions meant that we had a change of plans on several occasions.
Finding extra time on our side due to this change of plans, we were able to revisit some landings we had missed prior and we got those who wanted to go onto Kolyuchin Island ashore. We spent nearly four hours enjoying the spectacular bird cliffs.
This morning we revisited Cape Dezhnev, as we had bypassed it on the way North, and got a lucky break in the weather. We were able to land everybody. With those two landings completed we had achieved everything that we had hoped and planned for during this expedition.
