Explorations in Perseverance Harbour

Campell Island_A.Russ

A Subantarctic breeze rippled the waters of Perseverance Harbour this morning, but not enough to slow our explorations. First away in the Zodiacs was a small party returning to the megaherbs and Albatross of Col Lyall. The flowering of the Pleurophyllum speciousum is at its peak at the moment with waves of purple daisies billowing across the upper slopes of Campbell Island.

Upon arriving at the saddle the walkers found themselves surrounded by an abundance of flowering megaherbs all against the spectacular backdrop of Campbell Island's mountains and valleys.

The rest of our party explored the coastline by Zodiac spotting sea lions and albatross around the harbour. During the afternoon we enjoyed a Zodiac safari of the Bull Rock Albatross colony with magnificent views of both Campbell and Grey-headed Albatross densely packed on the terraces above.
