Dolphins off the Starboard Bow
"Dolphins off the starboard bow," Cruise Director Julia announces over the PA as guests file into the bridge and out on deck for a closer look. We add our cetacean encounter to the growing list of albatross and petrel species already spotted as we continue east towards the Bounty Islands.
Captain Aleks Pruss guides the Spirit of Enderby through a gap between two weather systems, making it a comfortable day at sea and we enjoy several lectures, including Andy's introduction to birds of the Subantarctic while our Expedition Leader Katja lets us know what we can expect at The Bounty and Antipodes Islands over the next couple of days.
Phil talked about the importance of biosecurity for the unique Subantarctic Islands we are visiting and we carefully check our clothing for seeds and soil in anticipation of our visits.
