A day at sea observing Black-browed Albatross
It was a day of birdwatching and relaxing on board Heritage Adventurer as we enjoyed a day at sea.
The sky was clear as we gathered on the outer decks to observe the birdlife heading to Campbell Island, the last stop on our Galapagos of the Southern Ocean adventure. Black-browed Albatross were the star of the show as they soared across the open waters.
After a leisurely breakfast, Ian gave his presentation on Cetaceans of the Southern Ocean, followed by Lindsay with a presentation on the Pest Eradication Programme on Campbell Island, of which he was a part of. A delicious buffet lunch was enjoyed before preparing for tomorrow's journey to Campbell Island with a biosecurity screening. The most southern of New Zealand's Sub-antarctic islands, Campbell Island is home to an array of endemic plants and birds, with six species of Albatross in residence.
To finish the day, we enjoyed a presentation from Lou introducing us to Campbell Island's history, fauna and flora.
