A day in Dunedin – Soaking in history and soaring alongside Albatross
The Scottish-infused city of Dunedin was the next destination on our New Zealand Coastal Odyssey adventure. We walked down the gangway onto the Zodiac with wheels (bus) and ventured into Dunedin city to Tūhura Otago Museum and experience some of the city's tasty fare along the way.
The museum was a highlight with information from the guides about the extinct Moa and Haast Eagles, and how Europeans settled in the area. We then headed to the Northern Royal Albatross/Toroa colony at Taiaroa Head Nature Reserve. It was an immersive experience as we were able to view the albatross sitting, resting, nesting and flying, and enjoyed a fascinating talk about the history of these magnificent birds.
This knowledge was quickly put into practice when we exited Otago Harbour and saw the albatross soaring above us gliding on the refreshing breeze.
