A birding paradise on Norfolk Island
Our Western and Grand Pacific Odyssey adventure continued as we arrived at Norfolk Island, a small subtropical island in the South Pacific. The weather was sunny, with conditions perfect for a day of adventure. So, off we went on our first excursion after two sea days. We received a warm welcome from the locals and many fattened cows that roamed freely. The Birders set off to Palm Glen Track and enjoyed a morning of walking through the bush, looking for the elusive Norfolk Parakeet and other endemic birds. Those on the Grand Pacific Odyssey boarded buses for a tour of the island, soaking in the extensive cultural history and nature, which included the Botanical Gardens, St Barnabas Chapel, a tour through the ruins of Kingston, the Convict Settlement, Lone Pine Point and town centre.
All guests had a wonderful morning, finishing off with a welcomed morning tea of homemade hummus and freshly baked bread at Palm Glen, put on by Margaret (a birding legend in Norfolk) and her family.
