Discovering Doubtful Sound by Land, Air, or Water
As the sun gently bathed the peaks of Milford Sound, we gathered on the outside deck to greet the sunrise with Heritage Adventurer perfectly positioned at the daunting fiord entrance ready to navigate in the footsteps of Cook and other early explorers.
Hot chocolate in hand, we took in the breathtaking surrounds all the way from the head of the Sound and back out. The rest of the morning was spent transiting from Milford to Doubtful Sound while we enjoyed a series of lectures about the history, flora and fauna of the area from our noted experts on board.
Once in Doubtful Sound, guests disembarked to enjoy a variety of activities including a scenic helicopter ride, hike through luxurious native bush, and a Zodiac cruise along the spectacular coastal waters. We excitedly returned to the ship to share and compare stories of which activities we enjoyed. The evening continued with a seminar where several expedition team members outlined various conservation issues of New Zealand and encouraged healthy discussion and debate regarding possible future paths to resolve them.
