Unseen Stewart Island: Pristine Wilderness and Wildlife Adventure

“It's hard to believe that it is almost a month since we departed Oban!”

“It's hard to believe that it is almost a month since we departed Oban on the Heritage Explorer for a memorable expedition into the wilderness of Stewart Island. Our 'Captain' Trent ensured that he found a safe and comfortable anchorage for us each day which enabled us to explore by tender boat and head ashore to embark on numerous walks to observe and learn about the flora and bird life of Rakiura/Stewart Island. We even managed to climb to the top of Bald Cone for a fantastic view of Heritage Explorer sitting at anchor in Pegasus Bay below us. Our expedition guides Lyn and Phil kept us well informed of the history of the area and pointed out the many species of plants and birds. We also had some close encounters with the local sea lions, one of whom was closely guarding his harem. He seemed to be keeping a particularly sharp lookout for Marty our trusty tender driver! Rahul our chef kept us well satisfied with his tasty creations while Gen our steward and raconteur ensured that we never ran dry. Our fellow passengers were a pleasure to share the journey with and we would also like to thank the Office staff at Heritage Expeditions (particularly Elisha) for making the planning and execution of our trip so much easier.
