Pyramid Rock Morning

We have now reached the penultimate day of an amazing expedition and tomorrow this group will disembark at Waitangi in the Chatham Islands and fly back to Christchurch on a special charter flight. We started today early, being out on deck at first light to see what seabirds were around Pyramid Rock, the only breeding site of the Chatham Island Albatross. This distinctively shaped island is a spectacular sight and arguably one of the most amazing bird islands in the world.

We finally went inside for breakfast as we cruised to SE Island and launched the Zodiacs to take a leisurely 3 hour cruise of the shoreline. Photos of the endemic Shore Plover and Oystercatcher along with the Pitt Island Shag plus many other species were captured by the group. We cruised back across Pitt Strait towards Waitangi during lunch and made preparations for the disembarkation tomorrow.
