67 Bears
Monday brings a new week full of promise and potential as we intend to continue making the most of every opportunity. We arrived at Wrangel Island on Saturday after a very good run north from Kolyuchin Island. On arrival we dropped off the north-bound Overlanders and picked up the local rangers, then spent yesterday at various locations along the north coast, ending up with a total of 67 Polar Bear sightings for the day. This impressive number is not a record, but still very good. Obviously we didn’t see all 67 up close and personal but some were quite close. This morning we are anchored off Komsomol and will soon be heading ashore. We can see eight Polar Bears from the ship, so hope for some close observations before moving to rendezvous with the Overland party.
